Working at Heartland Honda gives me the opportunity to see our motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides inside the dealership every day. But on the weekends, I get to experience them in an entirely different way.

I travel to races throughout Arkansas with my camera in hand, photographing dirt bikes and four-wheelers as riders push themselves and their machines through mud, rocks, ruts, hills and everything else an Arkansas racecourse can throw at them.

It is one thing to see a brand-new Honda sitting on the showroom floor. It is another thing entirely to watch one battle through the woods, cross the finish line and come back ready to race again.

Powersports racing is a huge part of my life. Throughout the year, I travel to race weekends across the state of Arkansas, photographing riders of nearly every age and skill level.

One race may have children learning the ropes on 50cc dirt bikes. The next class may feature youth riders competing on Honda TRX90 ATVs. Later in the day, the starting line may be filled with full-size dirt bikes, sport ATVs and utility machines ready to take on miles of rugged Arkansas terrain.

We even have pit quad races where grown adults climb onto Honda TRX90s and race for fun, pride and bragging rights. Our pit bike races are just as entertaining, with grown adults lining up on 125cc small-wheel dirt bikes and riding them like a championship is on the line.

These races remind us that powersports are not limited to one age, one skill level or one type of rider. Racing creates a community, and I am grateful that photography allows me to preserve those memories.
